  • Selection based on Class 10 marks, no interview or written test

The Indian Postal Department is expected to release the India Post GDS Result 2026 for 28,636 vacancies anytime now. Based on the timeline from the previous recruitment cycle and the gap between the application process and result declaration, we can get the expected date for the GDS 1st merit list. However, there is no official statement from the India Post regarding the result announcement.

Last year, for the 2025 recruitment cycle, the India Post GDS application process was open from February 10 to March 3, 2025, and the result was subsequently declared on March 21, 2025. This created a gap of approximately 2-3 weeks between the closing of applications and the release of the results.

Applying the same logic to the current recruitment cycle, where the online application process was conducted from January 31 to February 16, 2026, the first merit list is highly likely to be released in the first week of March 2026. Multiple media reports and educational portals suggest that the results were initially expected on February 28 but have been slightly deferred and are now anticipated by March 7, 2026.

Once declared, candidates can download the state-wise and circle-wise merit list in PDF format from the official website, indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.

How to Download the India Post GDS 1st Merit List 2026?

Once the result is officially out, candidates are advised to download the merit list immediately and save it for future reference. The process is simple and fully online. Follow these steps :

Step 1: Visit the official website of India Post GDS at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.

Step 2: On the homepage, go to the "Candidate's Corner" section.

Step 3: Click on the link that says "List of Shortlisted Candidates" or "Results" for the GDS 2026 recruitment.

Step 4: Select your respective state or postal circle from the list provided.

Step 6: Download the PDF and press Ctrl + F to search for your registration number or name.

The merit list will display the roll numbers, names, and marks obtained by shortlisted candidates for the first selection list. India Post usually releases multiple merit lists in phases if vacancies remain unfilled after the first round.

What Happens After the Merit List?

Candidates who are shortlisted in the first merit list will be called for Document Verification (DV) . They must report to the designated divisional head office within 15 days from the date of shortlisting. The final selection process includes :

  • Circle-wise and category-wise merit list based on 10th class marks
  • Document Verification (DV)
  • Medical Examination (ME)

There is no interview or written test in this recruitment process. Selection is purely based on the marks scored in Class 10, calculated up to four decimals to ensure accuracy.

Documents Required for Verification

Shortlisted candidates must carry original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies:

  • Class 10 Marks sheet and Passing Certificate
  • Identity Proof (Aadhaar/Voter ID)
