1. How much marks does Biology carry in an 80 mark theory paper?
Ans. Biology counts for 30 marks out of 80 in the Science paper. It has more weightage than Physics and Chemistry.

2. How is the distribution of marks done amongst different chapters?
Ans. As per the latest sample papers released by CBSE, following is the mark distribution for each chapter.
a. Life Processes- 10
b. Control and Coordination- 5
c. How do Organisms Reproduce - 5
d. Heredity- 4
e. Our Environment- 6
As a pattern from previous years, it has been observed that ‘Life Processes’ carries the maximum marks. Other chapters are usually 5-6 marks.

3. What is the typology of questions asked for Biology?
Ans. This year’s paper will have 50% competency based questions. Biology section will have the following mark distribution-
a. Multiple Choice Questions- 7 questions of one mark each
b. Assertion Reason Questions- 2 questions of one mark each
c. Short Answer Questions- 3 questions of two marks each
d. Short answer questions- 2 questions of three marks each

f. Case Study based questions- 1 question of 4 marks

4. Is there a choice between sections?
Ans. Every section is compulsory in the paper. However, internal choice is provided in some questions. Students can attempt either of the two questions given.

5. How does one make a well structured answer in Biology?
Ans. Use the key terms for each concept underlining them as you write. Wherever possible, include bullet points and flow charts in your answer. Support your answer with diagrams to make it more effective.

6. Will marks be deducted if a student does not have very good drawing skills?
Ans. The examiner is looking for a diagram which has precision in formation and labelling. They are not looking at artistic skills. As long as the diagram explains the concept, it will serve the purpose.

7. What is the best way to answer a question in Biology?
Ans. It is crucial for a student to make optimum use of the 15 minutes reading time allotted to them. Every question which is a short or a long answer question will have sub parts to it. The student needs to comprehend what the question is demanding. Marking scheme has marks specified for every sub part as well.

8. Does every question in Biology require a detailed explanation?
Ans. The length of the answer depends on the marks allotted to the question. Students need to check the same and answer accordingly. Unnecessary explanation should be avoided in answers.

9. Is NCERT enough for preparation of Biology syllabus?
Ans. NCERT is the base for the conceptual understanding. Concepts given in NCERT are well explained and the students can rely on the book. They can also enhance their learning by making their own revision notes in the form of mind maps, flow charts, mnemonics, etc.

10. Are there any reference books that need to be used for preparation?Ans. The students need to be thorough with NCERT. Along with that, NCERT Exemplar has several competency based questions which will help students to gain additional practice.
