At least seven people were killed in a devastating early morning collision on the Dobbaspet–Hoskote Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) near M Sathyawara village in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district on Friday, police said.

The crash, which occurred between 5.15 am and 5.30 am on the stretch between M Sathyawara and Kambalipura Gate, involved two SUVs, a canter truck and a motorcycle. According to a TOI report, all the vehicles were travelling towards Devanahalli from Hoskote when the collision took place.

According to police, a Mahindra XUV 700, allegedly being driven at high speed, first struck a motorcycle before ramming into a canter truck ahead of it. The impact was so severe that the truck’s rear axle snapped, causing the vehicle to topple onto the service road after crashing into a roadside barrier.

The force of the collision left the XUV 700 mangled beyond recognition.

The motorcyclist, identified as 26-year-old Gagan, an employee of a private firm who was returning home after completing his night shift, was flung into the air and died on the spot.

Six occupants travelling in the XUV 700 — all students of the same college who were reportedly on a joyride — were also killed instantly.

The deceased students have been identified as Bharath, 18, a resident of Frazer Town; Ashwin Nair, 17, from Kothanur; Ethan George; Arhan Sharif; and another student named Bharath. The identity of one more student was yet to be ascertained, TOI reported.

The victims from the SUV were shifted to MVJ Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

A second SUV, a Maruti Brezza travelling behind the truck, also crashed after hitting the dislodged axle lying on the carriageway. The occupants of the Brezza and the truck driver sustained injuries but are said to be out of danger.

Witnesses and early-morning commuters alerted the police and attempted rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.

Officers from Sulibele police station, along with senior officials, inspected the accident site and collected evidence. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Traffic on the busy STRR stretch was disrupted for over an hour as cranes were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and clear debris, allowing movement to resume gradually.
