In a significant addition to the city’s spiritual and cultural landscape, Ayodhya is preparing to open the world’s first wax museum dedicated entirely to the Ramayana.
The project, set to be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 19, will be unveiled during the city's ninth Deepotsav celebrations, held on the eve of Diwali.
According to reports, the museum is built on the Chaudah Kosi Parikrama Marg and represents a Rs 6 crore investment. The two-storey, fully air-conditioned structure spans 9,850 square feet and will house 50 lifelike wax statues depicting key figures from the epic, including Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman and Ravan.
The museum is designed to take visitors on a chronological journey through the Ramayana. The ground floor will feature scenes from Lord Ram’s childhood up to Sita’s swayamvar, while the first floor will depict the period of exile, Sita’s abduction, the burning of Lanka (Lanka Dahan) and the final battle between Ram and Ravan.
According to officials, the experience will be enhanced with 3D light effects and an immersive auditory atmosphere. Visitors will be greeted by the fragrance of the Treta Yuga and the continuous chanting of the ‘Ram Tarak Mantra’ and Ram bhajans, creating a multi-sensory experience.
A special selfie point has been installed beside the wax statue of Ram Lalla, allowing devotees to capture photographs with the deity.
The museum’s operational model involves collaboration with the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation, with 12% of the revenue generated earmarked for the local civic body.
An official reportedly confirmed that the entry fee for visitors has been set at Rs 100 per person. To ensure a comfortable viewing experience, the museum will accommodate a maximum of 100 visitors at any given time.
The construction was handled by Sunil Wax Museum, a Kerala-based company that claims prior experience in establishing celebrity wax museums in Lonavala and Thiruvananthapuram.
The building itself is designed in a South Indian architectural style, with each wax statue featuring dedicated lighting and meticulous detailing in attire, expression and posture.
