Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has confirmed that the Union Budget for 2026 will be presented on Sunday, February 1, reaffirming the government's decision to stick to the traditional Budget timetable despite the presentation falling on a weekend. The confirmation puts to rest any speculation around a possible change in schedule.
The Budget presentation will proceed as planned, with key fiscal measures and policy priorities set to be unveiled on the scheduled date. Financial markets are expected to closely track the announcements for signals on the government's policy direction, capital expenditure plans, and reform agenda.

Separately, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had last week outlined the broader roadmap for the Budget Session in a social media post. He said President Droupadi Murmu has approved the government's proposal to convene both Houses of Parliament for the 2026 Budget Session.
According to the approved schedule, the session will begin on January 28, 2026, and run until April 2, 2026. The first phase of the session will conclude on February 13, 2026, following which Parliament will reconvene on March 9, 2026, allowing time for scrutiny of Budget proposals.
The Budget Session, which is the first parliamentary session of the calendar year, will open with the President's address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. As per parliamentary convention, the session will be conducted in two parts, with a recess in between to enable standing committees to examine the demands for grants of various ministries in detail.
Similar to the Winter Session, the Budget Session is expected to witness the introduction and discussion of several legislative proposals during its course.
