Our reforms are broader and deeper than recognised: PM

In a comprehensive address which lasted almost an hour at the Delhi Economic Conclave, Prime Minister reiterated the centre's commitment to continue with economic and institutional reforms.

Bihar may or may not go the BJP’s way but the Prime Minister came out to bat for his government's reform credentials and promised to continue the process.In a comprehensive address which lasted almost an hour at the Delhi Economic Conclave, Prime Minister reiterated the centre's commitment to continue with economic and institutional reforms.The Prime Minister said, "Our idea of reforms is not to score points in intellectual discussion or league tables. Our idea of reforms is to transform India. It is a marathon not a sprint"Prime Minister, Narendra Modi confidently came out all guns blazing to quell fears about a slowdown in the government reform agenda and take on critics of the government’s performance.

Virtually every sector from financial services to agriculture found mention in the PM's almost hour long address.

His pet themes, including Swacch Bharat found prominence too.

While the PM spoke about the improvement in India's macros he also spelt out the government’s efforts to improve efficiency of the public sector.He also said, “There is no interference in banks, for the first time private sector individuals have been appointed.”“Look at SCI, in one years it has seen a turnaround. Road development is now at 23.5 km per day,” he added.The achievements of the government’s efforts on financial inclusion were given pride of place in his speech by the PM.In a subtle attack of the Congress strategy to provide right based schemes, the PM said, “we believe in empowering the poor not empowering the poverty alleviation industry.”“Each branch of each bank to assist one dalit/SC to start a business,” he added.While the emphasis was clearly on the government's performance since it came to power, the Prime Minister did allude to more reforms be it in the labor sector or rationalizing the subsidy regime.Whatever be the electoral verdict on super Sunday, the PM did put up a show of strength.
