U.S. President Donald Trump, on Sunday, delivered a forceful warning to Iran after Tehran reportedly announced plans to strike back "very hard," saying any such move would be met with overwhelming U.S. force.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever been hit before. They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before!"

The US President's warning comes shortly after Tehran declared what it described as the "most ferocious offensive operation in history." The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the operation would target both Israeli and US military sites in the region.

Iranian state media reported that sirens were activated across Israel’s Negev and Dead Sea regions as interceptor missiles engaged incoming projectiles, with explosions heard across Tel Aviv. The IRGC said it had targeted 27 American military bases in retaliation.

In Tehran, in the meantime, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, condemned the US and Israel in a televised address, calling their leaders “filthy criminals” and warning that they would face “devastating blows” for their attacks. “You have crossed our red line and must pay the price,” Ghalibaf said, emphasizing that the Iranian response would be severe.

Tensions continue to flare up after Saturday’s airstrikes reportedly killed Supreme Leader Khamenei, along with several top Iranian officials, including Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour, as well as members of Khamenei’s family.

Iranian authorities have announced a 40-day mourning period and declared that the killings would serve as a “launchpad for a great uprising against the tyrants.”
