US President Donald Trump sparked renewed speculation about Washington’s role in the killing of notorious Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho,” after posting a cryptic message on X: “We’re winning too much.”
"We’re Winning too much, it’s just not fair! President DJT," Trump posted on Truth Social.
Addressing the speculation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the United States provided intelligence support to Mexican authorities during the operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, which led to the death of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
In a post on X, Leavitt highlighted that the cartel leader was a key target for both Washington and Mexico City, framing the operation as part of broader efforts to curb fentanyl trafficking into the United States.
“The United States provided intelligence support to the Mexican government in order to assist with an operation in Talpalpa, Jalisco, Mexico, in which Nemesio ‘El Mencho’ Oseguera Cervantes, an infamous drug lord and leader within the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was eliminated," she wrote.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau described the killing of El Mencho in a military operation as a “great development for Mexico, the U.S., Latin America, and the world.”
At the same time, Landau expressed concern over the unrest that erupted in Mexico following the operation, noting in a post on X that he was observing the violent scenes “with great sadness and concern.”
