United States President Donald Trump launched the Board of Peace on Gaza and other conflicts with Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and 19 other leaders signing the body's charter during the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos. Describing the move as a major step towards global conflict resolution, Trump said, "We're going to have peace in the world ... And we're all stars".
"Once this board is completely formed, we can do pretty much whatever we want to do. And we'll do it in conjunction with the United Nations," Trump said, adding that the United Nations had great potential that had not been fully utilised.
But what caught people's attention at the signing ceremony was a brief interaction between Sharif and Trump, with the former pointing towards Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir who was present at the venue.
As soon as Trump noticed Munir, he too pointed towards the Pakistan army chief and acknowledged his presence in the audience. The US President was seen greeting him with a wide smile. The clip has since been shared widely on social media.

President Trump has repeatedly described Asim Munir as "my favorite Field Marshal" and a 'brave warrior' in recent months.
Pakistan's board membership and the joint presence of Sharif and Munir at the ceremony coincides with a phase of rapprochement in Pakistan-US relations. As part of this thaw, Pakistan has backed Trump's repeated claims of helping end the India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025. India has however rejected these claims of any third-party intervention and asserted that there was no US mediation.
What is the Board of Peace?
The Board of Peace was proposed by Trump in September 2025 as part of his plan to end the Gaza war. However, the initiative now seems to be aimed at mediating global conflict more broadly.
The member nations have to contribute $1 billion in cash if they want their membership to last more than three years, which Trump is expected to chair for life. Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, were among the countries that have already accepted Trump's invitation
According to the US President, the Board of Peace is "something that the world has never seen before – very special." US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the board's focus would be to ensure the plan for peace in Gaza was fulfilled but that it could also "serve as an example of what's possible in other parts of the world".
Pakistan’s inclusion in the 'Board of Peace' not only confers voting rights in international decision-making but also positions the country to play a significant role in Gaza’s reconstruction and other global development efforts.
