US President Donald Trump is set to meet leading Indian business executives on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos, where he will also deliver a keynote address and host a reception. This marks Trump’s first appearance at the annual summit in six years.

Ahead of his departure, Trump joked at a White House briefing, saying, “I'm going to a beautiful place in Switzerland where I'm sure I'm very happily awaited for.” His visit comes at a time of heightened political and diplomatic friction, including renewed controversy over Greenland and tariff threats against France and several NATO allies.

Trump recently shared edited images on Truth Social that appeared to depict Greenland as a US territory and showed altered maps expanding US borders, drawing sharp reactions from European leaders. He is also expected to participate later this week in the announcement of a proposed Board of Peace Charter, linked to his plan for Gaza’s redevelopment.

  • Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons
  • Anish Shah, Group CEO, Mahindra Group
  • Salil S. Parekh, CEO, Infosys
  • Srini Pallia, CEO, Wipro
  • Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises
  • Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman and Managing Director, Bajaj Finserv
  • Hari S. Bhartia, Founder and Co-Chairman, Jubilant Bhartia Group

India has a strong presence at Davos this year, with more than 100 corporate leaders attending the summit, which has drawn over 3,000 delegates from more than 130 countries.

Other prominent Indian leaders at Davos 2026

  • Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries
  • Sudarshan Venu, CEO, TVS Motor
  • Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder, Infosys
  • Nikhil Kamath, Co-founder, Zerodha
  • Rishad Premji, Chairman, Wipro
  • Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder, Paytm
  • Sumant Sinha, CEO, ReNew

The meetings come at a sensitive time for Indian exporters, who have been dealing with a 50% tariff imposed by the Trump administration for over four months. Industry leaders are closely watching for any indication of a shift in US trade policy.

Concerns have also been raised over recent changes to the H-1B visa programme. The US has replaced the long-standing lottery system with a weighted selection process that favours higher-paid and higher-skilled workers, while introducing an additional $100,000 fee. The move is expected to have a direct impact on India’s information technology sector, particularly companies reliant on the visa programme.

The World Economic Forum annual meeting is being held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23, and is being attended by several global leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
