Tesla has announced a brief price cut for the Cybertruck, dropping the cost to USD 59,990 for just 10 days. The offer applies to the all-wheel-drive version, which is usually listed at USD 79,990. In practical terms, that is a reduction of roughly USD 20,000, not a small adjustment but a clear attempt to move metal.
The announcement was shared by Elon Musk, who framed it as a limited-time opportunity rather than a reset of Cybertruck pricing. Tesla has not said how many vehicles qualify, but such offers are typically linked to inventory already built rather than new factory orders.
This matters because the Cybertruck has struggled to settle into a clear demand rhythm. It has visibility everywhere but still feels like a vehicle people talk about more than they buy. The sharp-edged design and stainless steel body make it unmistakable, but they also narrow its appeal. This is not a practical workhorse pickup in the way Americans traditionally understand one. It is closer to a statement product.
The price history explains part of the hesitation. When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, it spoke of a starting price of around USD 40,000. That figure became part of the mythology around the vehicle. Reality turned out very different. Years of delays, higher material costs, and a more complex build pushed the actual launch price far higher. Even at USD 59,990, the Cybertruck is still almost USD 20,000 above that early promise.
The timing of the cut also says a lot about where Tesla finds itself. Electric vehicle demand has cooled from its post-pandemic highs, especially for expensive models. Buyers are more cautious, incentives matter again, and competition has increased. Tesla has already used aggressive price cuts across its lineup over the past two years. The Cybertruck, however, has been relatively insulated until now.
By keeping the offer short, Tesla is testing rather than committing. If orders spike, it strengthens the case that price, not design, is the main barrier. If interest barely moves, it suggests the problem runs deeper.
Either way, the discount strips away some of the hype. The Cybertruck is no longer being sold purely as a futuristic icon. It is being treated like what it is in the end: a high-priced vehicle that needs buyers. And for the next 10 days, Tesla is willing to sacrifice margin to see how many of them are still out there.
