Russia has openly backed Iran in its conflict with Israel, saying it is “not neutral” in the ongoing crisis.
According to a report by Sky News, Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrey Kelin, said Moscow stands in solidarity with Tehran and believes the Western narrative surrounding the conflict is unfair.
Kelin said the portrayal of Iran as solely responsible for the conflict ignores the actions of other parties.
“No one is saying that US and Israel have initiated an attack against Iran. And Iran is only responding to this attack. This is simply unfair,” he said.
The Russian envoy added that Moscow does not view itself as a neutral party in the confrontation and strongly condemns the actions taken against Iran.
Despite backing Tehran politically, Kelin said the best outcome would be an immediate ceasefire and urged all sides to return to diplomacy. According to him, the crisis should be resolved through negotiations rather than continued military escalation.
The comments come as tensions in West Asia remain high amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Analysts have suggested that even a large-scale war may not quickly topple the Iranian leadership, while internal developments in the country have also drawn attention after Ali Khamenei’s son emerged as a potential successor.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has warned of severe consequences for Tehran, saying the Iranian regime could face complete destruction if it escalates its actions further.
