Pakistani journalist and vocal Asim Munir critic Moeed Pirzada took potshots at his own country after Imran Khan's lawyer revealed that the jailed former Prime Minister has lost 85% of vision in his right eye.
Pirzada, who is widely seen in Pakistan as pro-Imran Khan and is currently living in US, was reacting to a post by an Indian journalist lamenting the condition of the country’s World Cup–winning former captain in prison.
"The Man Who Saw (Cricket’s) Tomorrow, Imran Khan has lost his vision in the jail. They say his vision is now only 15 percent and that’s such a sad story," Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta said in a post on X.
Pirzada echoed the sentiment, calling it the "story of Pakistan and its Punjabi Army".
Story of Pakistan & its Punjabi Army: from massacres of Bengali citizens of Pakistan, to hanging of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to blinding of Imran Khan! This is who we are! https://t.co/6cQr5g5g3r— Moeed Pirzada (@MoeedNj) February 12, 2026
"Story of Pakistan & its Punjabi Army: from massacres of Bengali citizens of Pakistan, to hanging of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to blinding of Imran Khan! This is who we are!" he said, taking a bold dig at the Asim Munir-led forces.
The journalist was referring to the dark history of Pakistani military, including the infamous crackdown in East Pakistan and the hanging of former presidents.
The reference to the “massacres of Bengali citizens” alludes to the 1971 military crackdown in then-East Pakistan, which ultimately led to the creation of Bangladesh.
The mention of the hanging of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto points to his controversial execution in 1979 following a military coup led by General Zia-ul-Haq.
In another post, Pirzada responded to Imran Khan's son Kasim, urging him to internationalise the issue.
" ... you as sons have not done what you were supposed to do! You needed to knock doors across UK, Europe & US drawing attention to his plight! Now you can still demand an International Board of qualified physicians to see Imran Khan - not only for his eye sight but to examine & ascertain underlying conditions that have led to CRVO," he said, reacting to Kasim's post about Imran's vision loss.
Khan, 73, has been in jail since August 2023, serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges, one of dozens of cases he says were made up in order for the army to keep him out of politics, a charge the military denies.
Pirzada’s reference to the “blinding of Imran Khan” points to the allegations of ill-treatment of the former Pakistani prime minister in jail.
