An individual was taken into custody after an incident at the Cincinnati, Ohio residence of US Vice President JD Vance, with federal authorities launching an investigation into what occurred. Officials said the Vance family was not home at the time, and there is no indication the suspect entered the house.
The Secret Service heard a loud noise at the home around midnight and found a person who had broken a window with a hammer and was trying to get into the house, according to two law enforcement officials who were not publicly authorised to discuss the investigation and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Images published by local media outlets showed visible damage to windows at the property.

Federal and local authorities are examining whether the individual deliberately targeted Vance or members of his family. The law enforcement source told CNN that this angle remains under active investigation.
“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” the US Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.
Officials have not released the identity of the person in custody or disclosed possible motives. No injuries were reported, and there was no immediate indication of a broader threat, according to early findings.
Security around the residence has since been reviewed as investigators work to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Vance was reportedly at his golf club in West Palm Beach after a meeting with US President Donald Trump as Washington prepared to launch strikes on Venezuela. He later returned to Cincinnati to oversee developments.
