US President Donald Trump on Friday downplayed the release of a new set of photographs linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein that were made public by House Democrats. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had not viewed the images and insisted they carried no significance.
“I haven’t seen it, but everybody knew this man, he was all over Palm Beach,” Trump said. “He has photos with everybody. He has hundreds and hundreds of people that have photos with him. That’s no big deal, I know nothing about it.”
The photographs are part of a cache of more than 95,000 images obtained from Epstein’s estate by the House Oversight Committee. Trump appears in three of the newly released photos, which also feature figures such as former President Bill Clinton and former White House adviser Steve Bannon.
There is no allegation of wrongdoing against any individual depicted in the images. Trump has repeatedly denied any improper conduct related to Epstein, whom he has said he cut ties with in the early 2000s.
House Democrats released 19 images from the collection, describing the disclosure as limited and carefully handled. One black-and-white photograph shows Trump standing with six women whose faces were redacted. Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, said precautions were taken to protect victims.
“Our commitment from day one has been to redact any photo, any information that could lead to harm to any of the victims,” he said.
Committee staff have reviewed only a portion of the material so far, and Democrats say additional images may be released in the coming days. The disclosures come amid mounting pressure on the Trump administration to meet a deadline for releasing long-sought Epstein-related files held by the Department of Justice, according to the Associated Press.
The White House pushed back strongly against the release. Spokesperson Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of attempting to manufacture controversy, saying they were selectively releasing images with arbitrary redactions to create a misleading narrative. She described the move as part of a Democrat hoax targeting President Trump.
According to CNBC, the images released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee include photographs of Trump, Clinton, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, filmmaker Woody Allen, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Britain’s Prince Andrew, Epstein’s former lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and others. The committee did not provide details on when or where the photographs were taken or the circumstances surrounding them.
