Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday voiced strong support for the United States’ military operation in Venezuela, a day after American forces captured President Nicolás Maduro in a dramatic raid on Caracas.
Speaking at the opening of a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu backed Washington’s actions, saying, “Regarding Venezuela, I wish to express the support of the entire government for the resolute decision and strong action of the United States to restore freedom and justice to that region of the world.”
Netanyahu also praised US President Donald Trump in a post on X, congratulating him for what he described as decisive leadership.
“Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump for your bold and historic leadership on behalf of freedom and justice. I salute your decisive resolve and the brilliant action of your brave soldiers,” Netanyahu wrote.

US operation in Venezuela
US forces captured Maduro following airstrikes on Caracas and other cities on January 3, culminating months of escalating tensions between the Trump administration and the Venezuelan leader. Explosions and attack helicopters were reported near Fort Tiuna, the Carlota airbase and La Guairá.
President Trump confirmed the operation on Truth Social, writing, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”
US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said on X that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, would face “the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts” over drug trafficking and terrorism charges. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau described the development as “a new dawn for Venezuela,” adding, “A tyrant is gone.”
The operation followed months of US pressure on Caracas, including sanctions, oil tanker seizures and maritime actions against vessels accused of drug smuggling. Trump had previously said it would be “smart” for Maduro to step down.
Venezuela has repeatedly rejected US allegations of cartel links, accusing Washington of targeting the country’s vast oil reserves under the guise of law enforcement and security concerns.
