US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States "directly got involved" during the conflict between India and Pakistan, and credited President Donald Trump with brokering peace between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Rubio emphasized that the US played a direct role during the India-Pakistan conflict, calling President Trump the “president of peace” for successfully facilitating a truce between the two neighbors.
“So, we saw when India and Pakistan went to war, we got involved directly, and the President was able to deliver on that peace,” he made the statement while speaking on EWTN’s ‘The World Over.’
US President has repeatedly claimed that he “helped settle” tensions between India and Pakistan since May 10, adding that he had promised both nations increased trade opportunities with the US if they agreed to end the conflict.
However, India has consistently stated that the decision to cease hostilities with Pakistan was the result of direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, without any external mediation.
Rubio also pointed to other international disputes where he said the Trump administration had taken on a peacekeeping role. These included conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the prolonged tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
He said the US facilitated a peace agreement by bringing representatives from the latter together to sign a deal. “We dedicate a significant amount of time to stopping and ending wars,” Rubio said, noting that the administration remains focused on larger conflicts, including the war between Russia and Ukraine.
