French President Emmanuel Macron began his official visit to India with an informal public moment, heading out for an early-morning jog along Mumbai’s Marine Drive shortly after landing in the city on Tuesday.
Dressed in a navy blue athletic T-shirt, black shorts, and running shoes, Macron stepped out of his hotel with minimal ceremony and ran along the seafront promenade as security personnel maintained a discreet distance.

Morning walkers initially continued their routines before recognising the visiting leader, and images of the jog quickly circulated online, prompting reactions describing the sight as “surreal”, “refreshing”, and “unexpectedly relatable”.
Marine Drive, often called the Queen’s Necklace, is known for its calm mornings, and the relaxed outing offered a brief pause before the French President’s packed diplomatic schedule.
Visit focused on strategic ties with Narendra Modi
Macron is in India from February 16 to 19 and is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both sides are expected to review progress in the India–France strategic partnership.
He arrived in Mumbai with First Lady Brigitte Macron and was received at the airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.
Welcoming the visiting leader, Fadnavis posted on X, “Bienvenue à Mumbai! A very warm welcome to the President of France, H.E. Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron as they arrive in Mumbai! Maharashtra welcomes you! Wishing Hon President Macron and the entire French delegation a pleasant stay and a successful visit.”
Viral moment before formal engagements
The quiet jog, without heavy media presence or crowd management, stood out ahead of the day’s diplomatic meetings. Observers noted the relaxed outing reflected a growing trend of world leaders engaging in informal public moments during official trips, offering a more personal glimpse beyond ceremonial engagements.
Macron will now proceed with official discussions and meetings as part of the bilateral visit aimed at strengthening cooperation across defence, technology, and economic sectors.
