President Trump, approaching his 80th birthday, says he feels as fit as he did 50 years ago and dismisses age concerns. He acknowledged assassination risks but focuses on governing. Trump plans to host a UFC event at the White House on June 14, 2025.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday dismissed concerns about age and stamina, saying he feels “physically and mentally” the same as he did “50 years ago”, as he responded to questions ahead of his 80th birthday on June 14.

Asked how he feels now compared with when he first ran for office a decade ago, Trump said he feels “great” and sees little difference from earlier years. He acknowledged that time eventually takes its toll, but insisted that moment has not arrived. “I feel great,” he said, adding that while change may come someday, “that time hasn’t come yet.”

Trump was also questioned about personal safety following multiple assassination attempts during the 2024 presidential campaign. He admitted that the risk is real, but said dwelling on it would make it impossible to govern. “Yes. I worry about it, but you have to put it out of your mind, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to do your job,” the President said.

The comments came as Trump confirmed plans to host a high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championship event at the White House next year. Speaking to Navy sailors at the Norfolk naval base in Virginia, Trump said the fight would take place on June 14. “On June 14 next year, we’re going to have a big UFC fight at the White House right at the White House, on the grounds of the White House,” he said.

Trump did not mention that the date coincides with his 80th birthday. Earlier, the UFC event had been announced for July 4. This year, Trump marked his 79th birthday with a military parade linked to commemorations of the founding of the US Army.

During the 2024 campaign season, Trump survived two assassination attempts that led to heightened security around his public appearances. The first occurred at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a gunman opened fire from an elevated position. Trump suffered a minor ear injury before Secret Service agents neutralised the attacker. The incident resulted in casualties among attendees and prompted a review of rally security protocols.

A second attempt was prevented months later in Florida, when a suspect was detected near a location Trump was scheduled to visit. The individual was detained before any shots were fired, preventing another potential attack. The incidents underscored the ongoing security risks faced by political leaders and led to enhanced protective measures for Trump for the remainder of the campaign.
