An Australian far-right activist has sparked fury online after launching an anti-India tirade outside a Melbourne court.
Thomas Sewell, widely described as a neo-Nazi figure in Australia, accused the media of ignoring what he alleged was the demographic replacement of White Australians. He claimed he did not want Australia to become a “third-world country like India”.
Sewell made the remarks while speaking to reporters outside a court in Melbourne, where he appeared over charges of “offensive behaviour” linked to an Indigenous protest camp last year. The 32-year-old, who previously led the now-disbanded National Socialist Network, is facing 25 charges.
Controversial claims outside court
In an exchange with a 7News reporter, Sewell questioned why the Australian media was silent about what he described as the demographic “replacement of White Australians” — a phrase frequently used by far-right commentators to suggest declining proportions of White people in the population.
“We don't want Australia turning into a Third World country. Don't want it turning into India. We don't want it turning into Sudan. We want it to remain Australian. That is the primary issue,” Sewell said.
Referring to a protest in August 2025, he claimed it was directed against what he called white replacement in Australia. “The primary issue in Australia and the whole Western world is white replacement. That is the primary issue. That's the only thing we actually want to talk about,” he said.
When the reporter suggested taxpayers were unhappy with his conduct at the rally, Sewell responded: “You don't speak for the taxpayer, you're part of a corporate entity that is anti-Australia.”
“I think you'll find the average Australian does not want thousands or millions of illegal Indian immigrants staying in the country. And that's what we were protesting against. There were thousands of self-entitled, despicable people who think it's their right to be a part of our nation,” he said.
The exchange grew heated when a bystander interrupted him. Sewell reacted with personal insults, referring to a man as a “fat dork” and a “loser”.

Allegations before the court
Sewell faces 25 charges relating to two separate incidents in August. Prosecutors allege that on 31 August he led a group attack at a sacred First Nations site, during which several people were assaulted. He is accused of punching one member of the camp, kicking another and discharging a missile at the location.
In a separate incident on 9 August, Sewell is alleged to have raised his fists and lunged at a man while marching through Melbourne with around 200 supporters carrying banners reading “white man fight back”.
The case continues before the court.
