A video of Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, recently elevated to the rank of Chief of Defence Forces, felicitating the Pakistan Under 19 cricket team for winning the Asia Cup final against India has gone viral on social media, triggering a wave of sharp sarcasm and ridicule.

In the clip, Munir is seen praising the junior cricket team, a gesture that many online users mocked as emblematic of Pakistan’s skewed priorities. The reactions were less about cricket and more about what critics described as Pakistan’s obsession with symbolic victories, particularly against India, amid far more serious political, military, and economic setbacks.

Several users pointed out that Pakistan has suffered repeated defeats to India in major tournaments in recent years, including the T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy 2025, Asia Cup 2025 and Women’s World Cup. Others also linked the celebrations to Pakistan’s military humiliation during the May conflict with India.

“Small people with small happiness,” one user wrote, summing up the dominant tone of the responses.

Another comment took direct aim at Munir’s political dominance. “So Failed marshal has taken over the country completely. Can you show me a picture of any true democratic country where such thing happens? I am happy for Pakistan that Pakistanis are happy with the murder of democracy. This is good for India in long term.”

Some reactions mocked the outsized role of the military in civilian and even sporting affairs. “This nation is a joke, where Army does everything except fighting wars,” one comment read.

Others accused Pakistan of projecting the Under 19 win as something far bigger than it was. “Once someone said, we have to win everytime to prove our dominance. Whereas they have to win just once to larp. Looks like pak is projecting this win as some win over India linking with the may conflict,” a user remarked.

Another comment added bluntly, “Celebrating as if they won U19 WC.”

The viral reaction reflects a broader perception online that Pakistan’s military leadership seeks validation in optics and symbolism, even as the country grapples with democratic erosion, strategic failures and repeated setbacks against India on both sporting and geopolitical fronts.
