Russia on Tuesday warned the United States of “disastrous consequences” hours after President Donald Trump publicly encouraged protests in Iran, calling threats of fresh military strikes on Tehran “categorically unacceptable” and accusing Washington of dangerous external interference.

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry cautioned Washington against exploiting unrest in Iran as a pretext for renewed military action, warning of “disastrous consequences” for the Middle East and global security.

“Those who plan to use externally inspired unrest as a pretext for repeating the aggression against Iran committed in June 2025 must be aware of the disastrous consequences of such actions for the situation in the Middle East and global international security,” the statement said.

The Russian warning came hours after Trump urged Iranian protesters to continue demonstrations and claimed that external assistance was imminent, without providing details.

“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price. I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY. MIGA!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The exchange comes amid reports that nearly 2,000 people have been killed in a crackdown following weeks of anti-government protests across Iran, further raising tensions between Tehran and Washington and drawing sharp reactions from Moscow.
