A fresh wave of attacks linked to Iran has struck the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, marking a sharp escalation in tensions across the region.
Iran launched a coordinated missile and drone assault on the base located in the Juffair district of Manama, according to reports carried by Iran’s Tehran Times. The publication claimed that 21 soldiers were killed in the attack and released footage that purportedly showed flames and smoke rising from the area.
The Fifth Fleet operates out of the Naval Support Activity Bahrain base and is responsible for US naval operations across the Gulf, the Arabian Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The facility has long been considered one of Washington’s most strategically important military installations in the Middle East.
The latest strike follows an earlier assault on February 28, when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly launched a coordinated barrage involving ballistic missiles and Shahed-136 attack drones. The attack targeted key infrastructure within the base complex.

Satellite images and videos circulating online appeared to show thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the installation following the strikes. Preliminary assessments suggest that multiple structures at the base sustained significant damage.
Among the facilities reportedly hit were radar installations, service buildings and satellite communication terminals that support the fleet’s regional operations.
However, US officials have offered a more cautious account of the casualties. According to American authorities, personnel had taken shelter in bunkers during the attack. While at least three US troops were killed and several others injured in related hostilities across the region, officials said there was no immediate confirmation of fatalities specifically at the Bahrain naval base.
The conflicting casualty figures highlight the difficulty of verifying information amid rapidly evolving hostilities. The attack nevertheless underscores the growing intensity of the confrontation between Iran, the United States and their allies across the Gulf region.
The Fifth Fleet has been central to US efforts to safeguard maritime trade routes and counter regional threats, and any direct strike on its headquarters represents a significant escalation in the conflict.
