Planning a Trip to Mussoorie? New Tourist Rules You Must Follow in 2025

If you're planning to escape to the scenic hill station of Mussoorie, there's something new you need to know before you pack your bags. In response to growing concerns over ecological damage and overcrowding, Uttarakhand Tourism has made online tourist registration mandatory for all visitors heading to Mussoorie. This decision, backed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), aims to preserve the region's fragile ecosystem while enhancing infrastructure management.

Why These Rules Were Introduced

Mussoorie, one of India’s most popular hill stations, has seen a surge in tourist footfall in recent years. The NGT directive aims to ensure that the number of visitors doesn’t exceed the region’s carrying capacity. Overcrowding has led to frequent traffic jams—especially along busy routes like Gandhi Chowk to Mall Road and has put pressure on local resources.

To counter this, officials have launched an online registration system, similar to the Chardham Yatra registration, which will help monitor and manage tourist inflow more effectively.

What Hotel Owners & Tourists Need to Know

All tourists are required to register their travel plans online before arriving in Mussoorie. Accommodation providers—such as hotels, resorts, and homestays—are also required to register their properties and ensure that their guests follow the rules.

Property Registration for Hoteliers:

Accommodation providers must register on the portal with the following details:

-Owner’s name and contact number

-Type of property (hotel, homestay, etc.)

-Property name

-Number of rooms and guest capacity

Once registered, hotel owners can then register individual guests based on their bookings.

Step-by-Step: How to Register for Mussoorie Travel

To visit Mussoorie, every tourist must pre-register through the official Uttarakhand Tourism portal. Here’s how:

1. Visit the Official Website- Go to the Uttarakhand Tourism Department’s official registration portal. You can also check for the link via the Dehradun district website or official government announcements.

2. Fill out the Online Form, and provide the following information:

-Full name

-Contact number (mobile for domestic travellers, email for international)

-Dates of travel

-Number of travellers

-Vehicle registration number (if applicable)

3. OTP Verification

Domestic tourists receive an OTP on their mobile.

International tourists get their OTP via email.

4. Get Your QR Code

Once your details are verified, you’ll receive a unique QR code. This code will be scanned at checkpoints and during hotel check-ins.
