In a significant move to modernise border entry and accelerate tourism growth, Mozambique has officially launched a new digital e-Visa platform, allowing travellers from 183 countries to apply online before boarding their flights.
Announced at an official ceremony on February 11, 2026, the upgraded system is powered by VFS Global and introduces a secure, cloud-based infrastructure aimed at making travel to the Indian Ocean nation faster, simpler and more transparent.

For travellers dreaming of Mozambique’s coral reefs, golden beaches and wildlife-rich national parks, the process of getting there has now become significantly smoother.
A Fully Digital Visa Experience
The new e-Visa portal enables applicants to complete a simple four-step online process. Travellers can upload the required documents, make secure online fee payments, benefit from automated passport data extraction, and receive their pre-approved e-Visa via email before departure — eliminating the need for physical paperwork or long embassy queues.
The system supports multiple visa and Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) categories, including Tourist, Business, Crew Transhipment, Sports and Culture, Humanitarian Assistance, and Oil and Gas. Depending on the category selected, visa validity ranges from short-term visits to permits lasting up to two years.
Designed with user convenience in mind, the platform offers intuitive navigation, an integrated photo editor, encrypted data processing, advanced automation with real-time monitoring, and 24/7 multilingual customer support. It is fully compatible with mobile phones, tablets and desktop devices, ensuring accessibility for travellers worldwide.
While final visa approvals continue to rest with Mozambican authorities, much of the administrative workflow is now automated — a shift expected to reduce processing delays and provide greater clarity and predictability for international visitors.

Aligning With a Global Trend
Mozambique joins a growing list of countries leveraging digital visa reforms to boost tourism competitiveness. Nations such as Thailand, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Russia and Chile have also embraced digital platforms to streamline entry procedures.
Globally, digital visa systems are increasingly viewed as a key driver of tourism growth. By reducing paperwork, enhancing transparency and improving approval timelines, governments aim to make travel planning more predictable — particularly for long-haul visitors and business investors.
Tourism and Investment Strategy
Mozambique welcomed over 1.1 million visitors in 2023, and authorities view digital transformation as a key pillar in expanding arrivals beyond traditional Southern African source markets. The launch of the e-Visa platform is not only aimed at boosting leisure travel but also at strengthening the country’s broader economic strategy.
Simplified visa access is expected to encourage investment across sectors such as coastal resort development, energy and oil and gas projects, infrastructure expansion, and the hosting of cultural and sports events. By integrating advanced cybersecurity systems, encrypted data processing and locally managed back-office operations, the government seeks to safeguard applicant data while simultaneously generating employment opportunities and enhancing domestic skills development.
A Digital Gateway to Southern Africa
As international travel becomes increasingly digital-first, Mozambique’s new e-Visa platform positions the country as a more accessible gateway to Southern Africa. For travellers seeking Indian Ocean beaches, marine biodiversity and safari experiences — without bureaucratic hurdles — the shift signals a new chapter in the country’s global tourism ambitions.
With fewer forms, faster approvals and clearer entry pathways, Mozambique is betting that convenience will translate into stronger visitor numbers and deeper international engagement in the years ahead.
