Jaisalmer’s rail infrastructure has received a major boost with the completion of the redevelopment of Jaisalmer Railway Station at an estimated cost of Rs 140 crore. The transformation marks a significant step forward for the Golden City of Rajasthan, enhancing passenger experience while reinforcing its role as a key tourism and strategic hub. Visuals of the upgraded station were recently shared by the Ministry of Railways on its official X handle (@RailMinIndia), drawing widespread attention.

The revamped station has been designed to celebrate Jaisalmer’s rich architectural legacy while incorporating modern technology. Built with yellow sandstone elements and inspired by traditional Rajasthani motifs, the station reflects the city’s historic identity. At the same time, contemporary design features ensure efficiency and comfort, giving travellers a sense of Jaisalmer’s desert culture the moment they arrive.

Keeping commuter convenience in focus, the redeveloped station now offers lifts and escalators, modern waiting halls, enhanced lighting and upgraded sanitation facilities. These improvements aim to make rail travel smoother and more comfortable for both locals and tourists visiting the region.

To ease passenger movement, a well-planned concourse and circulating area have been developed within the station premises. Dedicated parking facilities allow travellers to safely park private vehicles. Safety and navigation have also been strengthened with a foot overbridge, cloakroom services, clear signage and a digital passenger information system.

Special emphasis has been placed on accessibility. The station now includes ramps, specially designed toilets and barrier-free access across key areas, ensuring a more inclusive travel experience for persons with disabilities.

The redevelopment of Jaisalmer Railway Station is being seen as a landmark achievement for the city. As a crucial hub for tourism and military movement, the modernised station is expected to enhance tourist inflow, support trade and create local employment opportunities.

While the station is now ready for use, a formal inauguration is awaited and is expected to be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With its seamless blend of heritage-inspired architecture and world-class amenities, the new Jaisalmer Railway Station is set to elevate the city’s image and strengthen its presence on the global travel map.
