Indian Railways has introduced a new passenger-friendly facility at Guntur Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh with the launch of a modern Sleeping Pods Facility, aimed at improving comfort for travellers during transit. The initiative is part of the Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance station infrastructure while boosting non-fare revenue.

The Ministry of Railways recently shared images of the newly operational sleeping pods on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, showcasing clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed pod-style accommodation. Located at Platform No. 1 near Gate No. 3, the facility provides a safe and affordable resting option for passengers waiting for connecting trains, including families and women travellers.

Modern short-stay accommodation at Guntur Railway Station

Developed under the Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) initiative, the sleeping pods facility at Guntur has a total capacity of 64 beds, comprising 52 single beds and 12 double beds. To ensure safety and inclusivity, several beds have been specifically earmarked for families and women, including 10 double beds and 12 single beds.

According to South Central Railway, the pods are designed to offer a hygienic and secure environment for short stays, especially for transit passengers who need a few hours of rest between journeys.

Wi-Fi, hot water, lockers and more amenities

The sleeping pods are equipped with multiple passenger-centric amenities to ensure comfort and convenience. These include:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Hot water supply
  • Clean and well-maintained washrooms
  • Snack bar
  • Work or travel desk
  • Locker facilities for secure luggage storage
  • Spacious, hygienic sleeping areas

Railway authorities have emphasised cleanliness and safety, making the pods suitable for solo travellers as well as families.

Affordable tariffs for travellers

Indian Railways has kept the pricing of the sleeping pods budget-friendly, making them accessible to a wide range of passengers:

  • Single beds: Rs 150 for up to 3 hours; Rs 300 for stays between 3 and 24 hours.
  • Double beds: Rs 250 for up to 3 hours; Rs 500 for stays between 3 and 24 hours.
  • Rooms: Rs 300 for up to 3 hours; Rs 1,000 for stays up to 24 hours.

Part of a growing railway trend

Similar sleeping pod facilities are already operational at Visakhapatnam and Charlapalli railway stations, and the addition at Guntur further strengthens Indian Railways’ focus on modern, passenger-friendly infrastructure.

With affordable pricing, essential amenities, and a prime location within the station, the new sleeping pods at Guntur Railway Station are expected to significantly benefit transit passengers and set a benchmark for short-stay facilities at railway stations across India.
