
Indian Railways has introduced a new passenger-friendly facility at Guntur Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh with the launch of a modern Sleeping Pods Facility, aimed at improving comfort for travellers during transit. The initiative is part of the Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance station infrastructure while boosting non-fare revenue.
The Ministry of Railways recently shared images of the newly operational sleeping pods on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, showcasing clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed pod-style accommodation. Located at Platform No. 1 near Gate No. 3, the facility provides a safe and affordable resting option for passengers waiting for connecting trains, including families and women travellers.

Modern short-stay accommodation at Guntur Railway Station
Developed under the Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) initiative, the sleeping pods facility at Guntur has a total capacity of 64 beds, comprising 52 single beds and 12 double beds. To ensure safety and inclusivity, several beds have been specifically earmarked for families and women, including 10 double beds and 12 single beds.
According to South Central Railway, the pods are designed to offer a hygienic and secure environment for short stays, especially for transit passengers who need a few hours of rest between journeys.
