Why the advisory was issued

WhatsApp channel and STEP enrollment
As part of the guidance, the US Embassy has encouraged citizens to follow the “U.S. Department of State - Security Updates for U.S. Citizens” WhatsApp channel. The channel is intended to provide regular notifications related to safety, travel advisories, and emergency alerts.
In addition, Americans have been asked to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The program allows US citizens traveling or living abroad to receive the latest security updates and enables the US government to contact them in case of emergencies.
Officials also advised reviewing country-specific travel advisories and recent alerts available on the official travel website before planning international trips.
