Uber has introduced a new accessibility-focused setting called Simple Mode, designed to make ride booking easier for users who find the regular interface overwhelming. The feature reduces visual clutter, increases text size, and prioritises essential steps, helping people book rides with fewer taps. It is especially useful for senior citizens, users with visual impairments, or anyone who prefers a cleaner, distraction-free layout.
What is Uber Simple ModeSimple Mode is an optional interface inside the Uber app that switches the standard layout to a simplified version. Once enabled, the app displays larger text, bigger icons, and fewer on-screen choices. Instead of showing all ride categories such as Moto, Rentals, or Intercity upfront, it highlights only the most used options. The map and confirmation screens are redesigned to offer clear, step-by-step prompts, allowing users to focus solely on requesting a ride without navigating through multiple menus. The interface is built to minimise confusion and make the booking flow straightforward.
Who can use itAlthough the feature is primarily aimed at senior citizens, it is not restricted to them. Anyone who wants a less cluttered screen can switch to Simple Mode. It also benefits users with temporary or permanent visual challenges as the mode enhances readability with large fonts and high-contrast design. People using smaller smartphones, where regular buttons may feel too tiny to tap comfortably, may also find Simple Mode more convenient.
How to enable and use Simple ModeTurning on Simple Mode does not require a separate app download. Users can activate it directly through the Uber app with these steps:
1. Open the Uber app and tap the Account tab in the bottom-right corner.
2. Select Settings from the menu.
3. Scroll to the Accessibility section.
4. Find Simple Mode and toggle it on.
The app instantly refreshes to show the simplified layout. To book a ride, users tap the large “Where to?” box. Saved Places such as Home or Doctor appear first for quick selection. If the destination is new, the search bar uses large, easy-to-read text. The ride options are shown in a simplified list with clear pricing, and confirming a ride takes fewer taps than usual.
Additional detailsSimple Mode works alongside Uber Senior Accounts, allowing family members to help manage rides for older adults through a linked Family Profile. The feature is available in India, the US, Canada, and other markets, and all standard safety features remain active. Users can turn off Simple Mode anytime to return to the full interface.
