When a supported track is playing, users can scroll down on the Now Playing view to find the About the Song section. Here, short story panels appear in a card-style format that can be swiped through, offering bite-sized insights about lyrics, production choices, inspirations and behind-the-scenes anecdotes.

The feature builds on Spotify’s recent push toward richer music discovery tools. Over the past year, the platform has expanded Song Credits to highlight creators involved in each track and introduced SongDNA, which maps connections between artists, producers and collaborators.

Spotify has also strengthened its data ecosystem by acquiring WhoSampled, giving it access to a large library of sampling and music lineage information that can enhance both SongDNA and About the Song experiences.

Availability and supported regions

About the Song is currently available in English on iOS and Android for Premium subscribers. The beta rollout covers the UK, the US, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. Spotify has not yet confirmed when wider language support or additional regions will be added.
