  • Optimus SSDs to launch globally in early 2026 with new packaging and design

Sandisk has announced SANDISK Optimus as the new product brand for its internal NVMe SSD portfolio at CES 2026. The move brings together SSDs previously sold under the WD_BLACK and WD Blue brands into a single, unified lineup. According to the company, the rebranding is aimed at simplifying its storage portfolio while making it easier for consumers to identify performance tiers based on their use cases, including gaming, content creation, and professional workloads.

What is SANDISK Optimus

SANDISK Optimus is positioned as the umbrella brand for Sandisk’s internal SSD offerings. The company said the new identity reflects its long-standing focus on flash memory engineering, reliability, and performance. Alongside the name change, Sandisk has introduced updated packaging and product design inspired by its brand heritage, while maintaining continuity in underlying SSD technologies.

The Optimus lineup is designed to cover a wide range of computing needs, from everyday productivity systems to high-end gaming PCs and AI-capable workstations. Sandisk said the rebranding also creates room for future expansion as demand grows for faster storage in PCs equipped for AI-driven workloads.

The SANDISK Optimus portfolio is divided into three clear product tiers. The SANDISK Optimus series is positioned as the entry-level performance line, aimed at creators and mainstream users looking for a balance between speed and affordability. This tier includes SSDs that were earlier sold under the WD Blue NVMe branding.

Above this sits the SANDISK Optimus GX range, focused on gaming performance with faster load times, higher capacities, and improved power efficiency. These products replace the WD_BLACK gaming SSD lineup.

At the top is SANDISK Optimus GX PRO, described as the flagship tier. This range targets professionals, developers, and enthusiasts building high-end PCs, workstations, or AI-focused systems, and succeeds the premium WD_BLACK SSD models.

Availability and rollout

Sandisk said the transition from WD_BLACK and WD Blue branding to SANDISK Optimus will begin with this announcement. Products carrying the new Optimus branding are expected to reach select global retailers in the first half of 2026, with options for purchase, pre-orders, or availability notifications. The company will continue to support its existing SSD customer base during the transition period as it aligns the portfolio under the new brand identity.
