OnePlus’ co-founder Carl Pei’s Nothing Technology Limited is known for its near-stock Android experience phones with their decluttered UI and overall balanced performance. After the flagship models Nothing Phone 1 and 2, the UK-based brand brought the Nothing Phone 2(a) earlier in 2024 to cater to a wider user base interested in mid-range smartphones. Just today on X and its website, Nothing has confirmed that its next phone would be Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus. The company will reveal the Nothing 2(a) Plus on July 31 at 14.30 IST.
Hints that the London-based consumer tech firm could be gearing up to launch a Plus-variant of the Nothing Phone 2(a) started appearing in July. On July 15, Nothing Technologies Limited posted an image of the Pokemon Mega Aerodactyl on its X account. The tweet on X was later followed by another one in which Nothing just posted a plus sign (+).
Nothing’s connection with Pokemon characters is that it uses their names as codenames for its phones. For example, the Nothing Phone 2(a) was codenamed Aerodactyl. So the Mega Aerodactyl mostly likely means an upgraded version of the Nothing Phone 2(a). Add the tweet with the plus sign to the clues and you have a device with the name of Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus.
Aside from the official tease by Nothing, a stronger hint in favour of the next Nothing phone being the Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus also appeared when Reliance Jio listed the “Nothing Phone (2a) Plus” in its database, the info being revealed by tipster Mukul Sharma in his July 18 tweet.
With Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus, Nothing could throw in a more powerful chipset and add some extra features. Both Nothing Phone 1 and 2(a) come with 50MP rear camera and there could be some added camera features given to the Nothing 2(a) Plus phone, if not a higher resolution lens.
