It’s not every day you hear someone turning down a job offer that could be worth Rs 1.5 billion. But that’s exactly what Australian computer scientist Andrew Tulloch did. And now, his story and his LinkedIn profile are going viral for all the right reasons.

Andrew Tulloch isn’t just another techie in Silicon Valley. He has a resume that reads like a dream. He started off as a strategist at Goldman Sachs, studied mathematical statistics at Cambridge where he graduated with distinction, and then moved on to work at some of the biggest names in tech. From Facebook (now Meta) to OpenAI, Tulloch has been at the center of some of the most important work in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

In October 2023, he left Meta after more than a decade and joined OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. But he didn’t stay there for long. Within a year, he co-founded Thinking Machines Lab along with Mira Murati, who was formerly the CTO at OpenAI. The company hasn’t even launched a product yet, but it is already valued at $12 billion.

That kind of buzz has caught Mark Zuckerberg’s attention. According to reports, he has been trying to hire researchers from Thinking Machines Lab for Meta’s new AI superintelligence team. Tulloch himself was offered a job that could have made him Rs 1.5 billion richer over six years, depending on stock performance and bonuses.

But Tulloch said no.

The offer was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. While Meta later called the report inaccurate and exaggerated, the fact that someone would walk away from such a massive opportunity has fascinated people online. Many are now checking out Tulloch’s LinkedIn profile, which lays out his journey through high finance, big tech, and cutting-edge AI.

He is not just a man with a glowing resume. He is someone who chose to build something new instead of joining a company that is already established. That choice, more than the money, is what’s making him stand out.

In a world where billion-dollar offers usually get accepted, Andrew Tulloch’s quiet no is making the loudest impact.
