Sony’s most recent State of Play showcased the upcoming 007 First Light, giving fans a look at the James Bond title developed by IO Interactive. While the game is slated for release on March 27, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, many PlayStation fans had hoped for news on another long-awaited project — Marvel’s Wolverine.
According to a new report, that wait may soon end. Insider Gaming has claimed that Sony could be planning another State of Play toward the end of September, one that may finally include fresh details about Insomniac Games’ Wolverine. The title was originally announced in 2021, but since then, official updates have been almost non-existent.
The speculation comes after years of silence following Insomniac’s successful Spider-Man series and a data breach in 2023 that leaked early Wolverine gameplay footage. While the leaks never confirmed how the game might ultimately shape up, they sparked debates around what kind of combat mechanics and tone the studio would adopt for the clawed mutant. Unlike Spider-Man’s fast-paced, acrobatic movement, Wolverine is expected to bring a more grounded style of action.
If the rumoured showcase materialises, fans could see anything from a new teaser to a gameplay reveal or even casting announcements. A reveal this month would add to an already busy September in gaming, with major releases like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Cronos: The New Dawn, Dying Light: The Beast, and Borderlands 4.
While Sony has yet to make any official statement, the possibility of a Wolverine-focused State of Play has generated anticipation. If true, it could mark the end of years of silence and deliver the first meaningful update on one of PlayStation’s most highly anticipated exclusives.
