LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a celebration of the Batman mythos in the form of a LEGO-themed adventure. The upcoming Batman game, due out on May 29, 2026, is inspired by the several versions of Gotham’s watchful protector that have appeared in comics, films, video games and other entertainment media over the last 80 years. When it comes to combat in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developers at TT Games were hugely inspired by Rocksteady Studios’ Batman Arkham series games.
According to TT Games and Warner Bros. Games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will introduce “a dynamic new LEGO Batman combat system delivering an authentic expression of Batman’s fighting style with fluid attack chains, over-the-top takedowns and powerful gadgets.” This is very much in line with how combat worked in Rocksteady’s Arkham games, where repeated successful strikes against enemies without taking damage unlocked the fluid chain of attacks, allowing Batman to move with tremendous agility and dizzying speed amidst a group of brawlers converging on him and land precision strikes. You had to be careful not to get a single hit because that would break the combo.
In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, “Batarangs can distract or stun enemies and the Batclaw can reel them in”. You will also have the opportunity to use the Explosive Gel and the Cryptographic Sequencer.
Other playable characters will come equipped with signature gadgets and gear, too. Jim Gordon will have a foam sprayer, Robin will use the line launcher and Catwoman will get to use her signature whip.
In Arkham games, you could counter incoming attacks to prevent taking damage and use an array of gadgets against enemies like different types of Batarangs, the Batclaw (used for the ‘Bat-slam), the Grapple Gun, Shock Gloves etc. Although the Grapple Gun was primarily used to escape and move faster inside Gotham, it became a powerful takedown tool with a tech upgrade; it could speed up Batman’s ascent and was used to assist in taking down enemies standing on the edges of the roof of any building. You could take down any thug standing on the edge in one go by timely activating the speed boost on the Grapple Gun.
Speaking of over-the-top takedowns, fans of the Arkham games would remember the glide-kicks from the air, where Batman would quickly accelerate after jumping from the top of a building/gargoyle and ram into a thug below with such force that it would knock him down immediately.
