Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, was recently announced for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is the first Halo game to be announced for PS5, and since the storyline introduces the lead protagonist, the Master Chief, in the storyline that begins the Halo universe, the developers are hopeful that the new game will attract new players. Besides upgrading the Combat Evolved campaign with high definition graphics, new cinematics and refined controls, Halo: Campaign Evolved brings numerous additions in the form of new missions, weapons, features and gameplay elements. Let’s take a look at the major new additions Halo Campaign Evolved brings to the campaign.
Three new prequel missions
Halo: Campaign Evolved adds three brand-new prequel missions set before the events of the Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. The new prequel missions “introduce entirely new environments, characters and enemies.”
Nine new, iconic weapons from the Halo series
Halo: Campaign Evolved adds nine iconic weapons from across the Halo series to the Combat Evolved campaign like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, Needle Rifle, etc.
“Some of the weapons we’re bringing in could be used against you in Halo: Combat Evolved by the enemy, but you weren’t able to pick them up yourself. Now, you can, and it feels natural because of how you can do that in other Halo games, it reflects the evolution of the series,” says Max Szlagor, Creative Director, Halo: Campaign Evolved, in a post on Xbox Wire.
Updating existing missions
As for preserving the original feel of Halo, Szalor says: “We learned from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary that there was still an appetite for things like better wayfinding, navigation, and diversity in enemy encounters. In The Library specifically, which features several Flood encounters, we wanted to reevaluate the pacing and enhance the environmental storytelling. We’ve added new lines to Guilty Spark, which guide players through the level, and there’s new dialogue that gives more insight into the narrative as it plays out.”
You can hijack vehicles now
For the first time in the Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, players will be able to hijack vehicles.
You can also pilot the Covenant Wraith tank
The Unreal Engine 5 remake also adds the ability to pilot the Covenant Wraith tank for the first time in Halo: Combat Evolved.
More Skulls for a more challenging Halo experience
For the remake, Halo Studios has added the most Skulls ever in a Halo campaign, so that players get more ways to modify the campaign.
Sprint option added
Halo: Campaign Evolved adds the sprint capability for players.
