Google has announced that its more affordable Google AI Plus plan is now available globally across all markets where its AI subscription offerings are sold. The expansion includes the United States, where the plan is priced at $7.99 per month, marking a significant shift from Google’s earlier focus on launching the service primarily in emerging markets.
The wider rollout adds 35 new countries and territories to the plan’s availability. Google began testing the lower-cost subscription in selected regions last year, starting with Indonesia in September, before gradually expanding to dozens of other markets. With this latest move, the company is clearly positioning AI Plus as a mainstream option rather than a region-specific experiment.
The Google AI Plus plan offers access to several of the company’s core AI tools. Subscribers can use Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro through the Gemini app, along with Flow’s AI-powered filmmaking features. The plan also includes research and writing assistance in NotebookLM, alongside other AI capabilities that Google has been integrating across its product ecosystem. In addition, users receive 200GB of cloud storage and can share plan benefits with up to five family members, tying the subscription closely to the broader Google One offering.
Google says that existing Google One Premium 2TB subscribers will automatically gain access to the AI Plus plan’s benefits over the next few days, without any change to their current subscription. This move effectively adds more value to Google’s higher-tier storage plan while simplifying access to its AI tools for existing customers.
The AI Plus plan sits between free access to Gemini and the more expensive Google AI Pro plan, which typically costs around $20 per month. Google has positioned Plus as a first paid step for users who either do not need advanced features or find the Pro plan too expensive. This positioning reflects Google’s broader strategy of lowering the barrier to entry for paid AI usage while still maintaining a premium tier for power users.
Pricing for the Plus plan varies by region. While it costs $7.99 per month in the US, the subscription is generally cheaper in emerging markets, often priced below $5. In India, for example, the plan is available at Rs. 399 per month, which works out to roughly $4.44. Google believes this pricing flexibility will help it attract a wider and more diverse user base globally.
When the plan was first introduced, Google said its goal was to make access to Gemini, Veo, and other creative AI tools more affordable in emerging markets. At the same time, the company is using the plan to compete directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go subscription, which is priced at $8 per month in the US and offered at lower rates in some other regions. Both companies are targeting a large pool of potential users who may not be ready for premium AI subscriptions but could become long-term customers over time.
To encourage early adoption, Google is offering a promotional discount that gives new subscribers 50% off for the first two months. For now, the global rollout signals Google’s intent to scale its AI ecosystem quickly by appealing to casual and cost-conscious users, not just enterprise customers or AI enthusiasts.
