Google has announced that Google I/O 2026 will be held on May 19–20, returning to its familiar home at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. As in recent years, the event will also be streamed online globally via io.google.
Google I/O is the company’s flagship annual developer conference, where it typically unveils major updates across its software platforms and long-term product roadmap. This year, Google says the spotlight will be on its latest AI breakthroughs, alongside updates spanning products across the company.
AI, Gemini and Android in focus
While Google has not shared a detailed agenda yet, the company has confirmed that attendees can expect news and demos covering everything from Gemini to Android, along with broader platform and developer tools.
The event will feature keynote presentations from Google leaders, fireside chats, hands-on product demos and technical sessions aimed at developers building on Google’s ecosystem. Given Google’s aggressive push into generative AI over the past year, Gemini updates are likely to be a central theme once again.
A playful build-up to the main event
Ahead of the conference, Google is also launching a “save-the-date experience” designed to build anticipation. The interactive experience lets users play, create and remix content inside a digital playground built using Gemini, offering an early taste of how the company is positioning AI as a creative and developer-facing tool.
In recent editions, Google I/O has increasingly blended traditional developer announcements with broader consumer-facing reveals, reflecting how tightly AI, productivity tools and operating systems are now intertwined.
More details about sessions, speakers and registration are expected in the coming weeks. For now, developers and tech watchers alike can mark their calendars: Google I/O 2026 is set for mid-May, and AI will once again be front and centre.
