A new video showing the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s battery exploding during a durability test has gone viral, sparking safety concerns among users and potential buyers. The incident was captured by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything, who is known for testing the limits of new smartphones.

In the video, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold was put through a standard bend test — a routine check to see how much physical stress a phone can handle. However, things took an unexpected turn when the foldable’s battery suddenly burst open and caught fire as the phone was bent backward.

JerryRigEverything, whose real name is Zack Nelson, has tested hundreds of smartphones over the years, but he said this is the first time a phone’s battery has exploded during one of his tests. Neither the original Pixel Fold nor last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold had shown similar issues, making this incident particularly unusual.

The video has since gained millions of views on social media, with many users questioning the safety and build quality of Google’s latest foldable device. Some viewers pointed out that such extreme tests don’t reflect everyday use, while others argued that a battery explosion, even under stress, could signal a deeper flaw in design or materials.

Experts note that modern smartphone batteries are generally safe, but they can become dangerous if punctured or exposed to excessive pressure. Lithium-ion batteries — used in nearly all smartphones — can overheat and catch fire if the internal layers are damaged.

It’s unclear whether this was an isolated incident or a sign of a wider issue. Google has not yet commented on the test or the viral video. However, given that this is the first such explosion during a well-documented durability test, the company is likely to review the case closely.

The timing isn’t ideal for Google, as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is competing with other premium foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which reportedly passed the same test without major damage.

While most users will never bend their phones this way, the video has certainly shaken confidence among potential buyers — and raised fresh questions about how much pressure today’s foldable phones can really handle.
