Google launches Pixel 8a with ‘premium’ AI features in India: Price, key features

Google has launched its latest A-series phone, the Pixel 8a in India. The Pixel 8a is powered by the Google Tensor G3 chip and features the Titan M2 security chip. The phone will receive seven years of software support, including security updates and Android OS upgrades.

Google Pixel 8a is available for pre-order on Flipkart and goes on sale from May 14. The Pixel 8a is priced at Rs 52,999 for the 128GB variant whereas the 256GB variant costs Rs 59,999. Launch offers include cash back of Rs 4,000 with select bank cards. Furthermore, there’s an exchange bonus of Rs 9,000 on select smartphone models. Those who pre-order the Pixel 8a can snag the Pixel Buds A-series at Rs 999 till May 14. The Pixel 8a comes in two new colours: the limited edition Aloe and Bay. The classic Obsidian and Porcelain options are also available.

As expected, Pixel 8a brings a host of AI features on board. Powered by the Google Tensor G3 chip, the Pixel 8a is equipped with many of the same AI features as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The phone packs a dual rear camera system with a 64-megapixel main lens and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens. There’s a 13MP camera for selfies and video calls.

AI-powered camera features include Best Take, which lets users pick the best shot from a series of photos. There’s Magic Editor that lets you reposition and resize subjects or use presets to make the background pop. There is also Audio Magic Eraser, which removes distracting sounds in your videos —  like wind, crowds and other noises.

The Pixel 8a also has Gemini, Google's built-in AI assistant, which allows users to type, talk, and add images for various tasks. Circle to Search enables users to quickly find information without switching apps. Google has also introduced Audio Emojis, which let you add an audio reaction and visual effect.

The smartphone has a new Actua display, which Google claims is 40 percent brighter than Pixel 7a.
