Google launches Doppl, an AI-powered app that allows you to see how outfits look on you

Google is stepping further into the fashion-tech world with Doppl, a new experimental app under the Google Labs umbrella. In a blog post, Google said that the app lets users virtually try on outfits using animated, AI-generated avatars of themselves.

Building on the virtual try-on tools announced for Google Shopping in May, Doppl allows users to upload photos or screenshots of clothing — whether it’s from a friend, a thrift store find, or a social media post — and visualise how that outfit might look on them. Unlike typical try-on tools, Doppl doesn’t just overlay clothes onto a static image. It uses generative AI to create animated videos of the user wearing the outfit, offering a more realistic sense of fit and movement.

The app is aimed at helping users explore their personal style and experiment with new looks in a fun, visual way. Users can also save or share their favourite AI-generated outfits with friends or on social media.

As part of Google Labs, Doppl is still in its early stages and comes with the usual experimental caveats — the fit and appearance of clothes might not always be precise. Still, the company hopes user feedback will help refine the app.

“Doppl is designed to turn outfit inspiration into imagination — and maybe even confidence,” said Google, hinting at future updates and refinements based on community input.

Doppl is available starting today on iOS and Android in the US, with global availability yet to be announced.
