YouTube Shorts has gained immense popularity in the last few years with the rise of short-form videos on various social media platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat. However, many creators have been requesting the video uploader platform to allow longer Shorts videos, giving these YouTube creators more flexibility to tell stories.
Thankfully, YouTube has now addressed this request and announced via a new blog post that the platform would allow creators to upload videos up to 3 minutes long. This change will be visible from October 15 and applies to videos that are square or taller in aspect ratio. YouTube is also working on improving recommendations for these longer Shorts.
Creators will also be able to keep up with the latest trends by creating familiar content with the addition of a template feature. They can match their short videos with the trending sounds and then customize them as per their liking. Further, the company has introduced a new Shorts Trends page, similar to the Trending section for longer-length videos.
In addition to these changes, YouTube is also introducing a “Remix” option on any short video. Users can select it to access a vast library of YouTube content directly from their Shorts camera, allowing them to remix clips from a variety of music, videos, and more. Comments will also be previewed in the Shorts feed, allowing creators to get a sneak peek of the user feedback.
Additionally, YouTube has introduced an option to customise your feed, especially if you want to see fewer Shorts in your Home feed. Users can simply click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of any Shorts grid and choose the ‘Show fewer Shorts’ option to enable it.
