  • Feature is software-controlled and can be toggled on or off via system settings

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is set to introduce a built-in screen privacy feature as part of One UI 8.5. According to a post shared by One UI, the feature will be integrated directly into system settings, removing the need for third-party apps or physical privacy screen protectors. The functionality is expected to debut on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and then roll out across the wider Galaxy S26 lineup.

What is the privacy display feature

The privacy display feature is designed to reduce screen visibility when viewed from side angles. When enabled, content on the display becomes harder to read for people sitting or standing nearby, while remaining clearly visible to the user viewing the phone head-on. The aim is to protect sensitive information such as messages, emails, banking apps, and work documents in public spaces.

Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors, which permanently affect viewing angles and brightness, Samsung’s approach is software-controlled. This means users can turn the feature on or off as required, depending on their environment and usage.

How it will work in One UI 8.5

Based on the screenshots and details shared in the tweet, the privacy display will be accessible through the phone’s settings menu in One UI 8.5. Users will be able to manually activate it or set conditions for automatic activation. These conditions may include scenarios such as using the phone outdoors, opening specific apps, or switching to certain modes.

The feature appears to rely on display-level adjustments rather than app-specific overlays. This allows it to work system-wide, covering notifications, quick settings, and supported applications without additional configuration.

What it means for Galaxy S26 users

For Galaxy S26 users, the built-in privacy display adds an extra layer of security during everyday use. It is particularly useful for commuters, office environments, and public places where shoulder surfing is common. By integrating the feature into One UI 8.5, Samsung is positioning privacy as a default system capability rather than an optional add-on.

The Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch with One UI 8.5 pre-installed, making the privacy display feature available out of the box on supported models.
