Some might look dash cams in cars as a luxury which yet they offer valuable features. These devices act as digital witnesses, capturing video evidence of driving incidents or accidents, which can be helpful for insurance claims or settling disputes. More so in a country like India where people will rarely admit they are at fault.
A dash cam can capture moments on the road, from scenic drives to unexpected events. Boult has been making solid and steady dash cams for a while now. The CruiseCam X5 Pro is the latest addition to the line up dash cams from Boult. We used to for a while and here’s what we think:
Design, app and set up process
The CruiseCam X5 Pro is equipped with a 3-inch display, which makes it fairly easy to navigate through its various features. The screen size is adequate for basic viewing and checking settings without taking up too much space.

There’s the Boult Cruise app which gives access to all the functionalities. Through this app, users can access a well-organised video gallery, live stream footage from the dash cam, and quickly retrieve event recordings, all from a smartphone. The app is straightforward, with basic functionalities that make it easy to monitor footage on the go. This feature may especially appeal to drivers who prefer convenient access to recordings without needing to transfer files manually to a computer.
Video quality, safety features
The device provides video quality that will meet the needs of most users, with its dual-camera setup designed to capture both front and rear perspectives effectively. Equipped with a front camera capable of 4K recording and an 8MP sensor, the X5 Pro produces high-resolution images, capturing details that are helpful for driving documentation or recording roadside incidents. The rear camera, with a 1080p Full HD resolution and a 2MP sensor, provides a reliable view of activity behind the vehicle, helping to complete the video coverage.
One of the highlights of the X5 Pro is the front camera’s integration with the Sony Starvis IMX415 sensor, which enhances its ability to capture clear and detailed footage even in low-light situations. This feature, combined with the dash cam’s advanced night vision capabilities, supports visibility during night driving or in poor weather conditions, which can be particularly useful for drivers navigating dimly lit or unpredictable roads. It has to be said that the night vision capabilities of this Boult dash cam are really good.

The 140-degree ultra-wide field of view is another practical inclusion, as it enables the camera to cover a broad perspective, improving the dash cam’s ability to monitor surrounding vehicles.
In terms of safety features, the CruiseCam X5 Pro includes collision detection and a G-sensor. These sensors automatically initiate emergency video recording when an impact is detected, creating an important backup that can be reviewed if an accident occurs. Mercifully, this is a feature we didn’t get to test, so we can’t say how effectively it works. But on paper, it does serve as an important feature. Furthermore, there’s GPS logging, which can record precise location data as part of the footage.
For storage, the dash cam supports SD cards that meet Class 10, U3, and V30 ratings, allowing users to select from various capacities according to their needs. This compatibility range ensures that users can store more footage at higher resolutions, which is a practical option for those who plan to use the dash cam extensively.
What we think
Priced at Rs 12,999, the CruiseCam X5 Pro is a dependable choice for drivers looking for a dual-camera dash cam with clear video quality and a range of practical features. Its easy-to-use app, comprehensive video quality, and added safety measures make it a worthwhile purchase for those who value security and documentation on the road. Its reliability and intuitive setup make it a balanced option for most driving needs.
