Blinkit has announced the launch of the NCMC Bharat Yatra Card on its platform, marking an expansion into public transport enablement. The card is priced at Rs 50 and is delivered to users through Blinkit’s quick commerce network. According to the company, the card is designed to reduce reliance on city-specific transit cards and simplify access to public transport systems across India.
The announcement was shared by Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa, who said the initiative aims to support metro and bus usage across multiple cities with a single, interoperable card.
What is the NCMC Bharat Yatra Card
The Bharat Yatra Card is based on India’s National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework. It is powered by RuPay and issued in partnership with Pine Labs. The card supports zero-KYC issuance, allowing users to start using it without completing traditional verification steps at the time of purchase.
Once issued, the card can be topped up instantly using UPI. This removes the need to stand in queues at metro stations or visit physical recharge counters, a process that often discourages occasional or first-time public transport users.
How it works and key features
The card works across NCMC-enabled metro and bus networks, allowing commuters to use a single card across participating cities. Users can add balance digitally and tap the card at supported terminals for fare deduction. The focus is on interoperability, eliminating the need to maintain separate cards for different cities or transport systems.
Blinkit’s role is primarily in distribution. By offering home delivery, the company is attempting to lower access barriers associated with obtaining transit cards, especially for new users or travellers.
Availability and rollout cities
Blinkit has confirmed that deliveries of the NCMC Bharat Yatra Card have begun in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. The company has not yet shared timelines for expansion to additional cities, but the card itself is compatible with NCMC-supported transport networks nationwide.
The launch positions Blinkit as a distribution partner in India’s broader push toward unified digital mobility payments, complementing UPI-based ticketing rather than replacing it.
