If you’re the kind of person who feels a little thrill every time you close those colorful Activity rings on your Apple Watch — good news. It turns out, those small daily wins might be doing more for you than you realise.
A new study by Apple, in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the American Heart Association, reveals that people who regularly close their rings aren’t just more active — they’re sleeping better, handling stress better, and showing signs of healthier hearts too.
The Apple Heart and Movement Study analysed data from over 140,000 participants across the U.S. And the numbers are pretty impressive. People who hit their daily Activity goals were 48% less likely to experience poor sleep — meaning fewer restless nights and less tossing and turning.
That’s not all. They were also 73% less likely to have a high resting heart rate, a key sign of good fitness and heart health. And when it comes to mental wellbeing, those who moved more were 57% less likely to report high stress levels, measured by a simple four-question stress survey.
What’s even better is that these benefits showed up across all age groups and genders, it proved that anyone, no matter their age or fitness level, can experience real health boosts by moving a little more each day.
With more than 200,000 people now part of this ongoing study, Apple is hoping to unlock even more insights about how small, everyday habits like standing more, walking an extra block, or getting in those quick evening stretches — can lead to bigger, long-term health gains.
So, the next time you’re tempted to skip that evening walk or ignore your standing reminder, do remember that those little rings might be quietly helping you sleep better, feel calmer, and keep your heart ticking happily along.
