Adobe has announced a new wave of AI-powered updates for Photoshop, focusing on higher-quality outputs, reduced artefacts, and more granular creative control. The updates span multiple areas of the app, from new non-destructive adjustment layers to smarter Generative Fill behaviour and an upgraded Firefly model delivering sharper, more realistic results.
One of the most practical additions in this update is the introduction of three new adjustment layers: Clarity, Dehaze, and Grain. These are fully non-destructive and maskable, allowing creators to fine-tune specific areas of an image without permanently altering the underlying pixels. Clarity is designed to enhance structure and crispness, making subjects stand out with better midtone contrast. Dehaze targets atmospheric haze and flat lighting, helping restore depth and balance in washed-out scenes. Grain adds controlled texture, useful for giving images a more organic or cinematic feel. By offering these as dedicated adjustment layers rather than destructive edits, Adobe is clearly aiming to give photographers and designers more flexibility during late-stage refinement.
Generative Fill also receives a meaningful upgrade through improved reference image handling. Reference Image for Generative Fill has already become one of Photoshop’s most relied-upon AI features, largely because it speeds up complex edits that would otherwise require meticulous manual work. With this update, Photoshop can now preserve the identity of specific objects from a reference image more accurately. Instead of loosely approximating an object’s appearance, the AI can adapt it to a new scene while maintaining recognisable characteristics. Adobe says the system is now geometry-aware, meaning generated objects better match scale, rotation, lighting, colour, and perspective, resulting in edits that blend more naturally into their surroundings.
Under the hood, Adobe is rolling out upgrades to Generative Fill, Generative Expand, and the Remove tool by shifting them to newer Firefly models. These updates promise higher-quality results with up to 2K resolution output, sharper detail, and fewer visible artifacts. According to Adobe, the new models improve how closely edits follow user prompts, reduce seams where generated content meets the original image, and create more consistent lighting and depth across the entire composition. The goal is to make AI edits look less like obvious additions and more like native parts of the image.
Text handling is also getting attention, with a new Dynamic Text feature entering beta. This tool simplifies the process of shaping text into circular, arched, or bowed forms. Instead of relying on manual path tools or workarounds, users can select Dynamic Text, choose a shape, and let Photoshop automatically fit and resize the text. Adobe positions this as a faster and more intuitive way to create and refine curved text layouts, particularly useful for posters, logos, and social media graphics.
