Tennis legend Roger Federer is set to make a return to the court at the 2025 Shanghai Masters. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has confirmed that he will participate in the “Roger & Friends” celebrity doubles match on October 10 at the Qizhong Stadium.

This special event will combine sport and entertainment, bringing together well-known figures such as actor Wu Lei, martial artist and actor Donnie Yen, and former world No. 3 doubles player Zheng Jie, a two-time Grand Slam doubles winner.

In a promotional video, Federer announced his comeback, saying, “Hello, this is Roger, and I am really happy to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters.”

He added, “Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans, unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game.”

Federer’s last appearance at the Shanghai Masters came in 2017, a year in which he clinched his second singles title at the tournament. His participation in this year’s exhibition doubles match offers fans a rare opportunity to watch him play again, this time alongside celebrities and former tennis champions. The event is expected to spark excitement among fans and serve as a celebration of his extraordinary impact on the sport.

Recently, Federer was spotted at Wimbledon, watching from the stands during Novak Djokovic’s fourth-round clash. His entrance alongside wife Mirka drew loud applause from the crowd. Dressed in a blue suit with the signature purple badge worn by All England Club members, Federer looked every bit the champion he once was. The Swiss star first lifted the Wimbledon trophy in 2003 and went on to claim his eighth title there in 2017.
