Virat Kohli endured another failure on his return to international cricket when he was dismissed for a duck in the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide on Thursday. Kohli, who was dismissed for a eight-ball duck in the first ODI in Perth, fell to a four-ball duck in Adelaide – his most successful overseas venue.
At the Adelaide Oval, Kohli has amassed the highest number of runs (975) of any visiting batter (in all formats).

Aussie right-arm fast-medium bowler Xavier Bartlett, set up Kohli with three deliveries on good length, angling away, and then got one back to nip in that hit the former Indian captain plumb in front.
Kohli discussed with Rohit Sharma about taking a review but rightly decided against it as the ball tracker showed the ball was going to hit the middle of middle stump.
For the first time in his 304-match ODI career, Kohli fell for ducks in two consecutive matches. He was previously dismissed for successive ducks in a Test and T20I in Ahmedabad in 2021.
This was only the second time Kohli has been dismissed for a duck in an ODI in Australia and this is also his fourth duck overall against the Aussies.
It also marked his 40th duck in international cricket — only Zaheer Khan, with 43 ducks, has more for India across formats.
Even though he hadn't played for India since the Champions Trophy final, Kohli had claimed to be feeling as fit as ever before last Sunday's series opener in Perth.
“Well to be honest, the amount of cricket I’ve played over the last 15-20 years, I’ve actually not rested at all if that makes sense. I’ve probably played the most number of games in the last 15 years in international cricket, combining the IPL together as well. So for me, it was a very refreshing time off. I’m feeling as fit if not fitter than I’ve ever been before and yeah you can just feel the freshness when you know you can play the game and mentally you know what to do out there it’s just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of,” Kohli said in a chat with Ravi Shastri and Adam Gilchrist on Fox Sports.
