Prithvi Shaw's switch to Maharashtra from Mumbai has so far been a fruitful one for the 25-year-old, whose career otherwise has been marred with controversies. Shaw showed great signs when he made his debut for the side with a ton in the invitational Buchi Babu Trophy 2025. He then impressed with an authoritative 181 in the warm-up match against his former team Mumbai ahead of the Ranji Trophy.
And now in India's premier red-ball domestic competition, Shaw has already made an impact by smashing the third-fastest double century in the history of Ranji Trophy. Shaw achieved the feat in the match between Maharashtra and Chandigarh, which the former won by 144 runs.
It all started with Shaw smashing the seventh-fastest ton in Ranji Trophy, taking just 72 balls to reach the three-figure mark. He missed out on the top five fastest Ranji centurions by only four balls.
He didn't stop there and converted it into a double century in just 141 balls. He is now only behind Ravi Shastri (123 balls vs Baroda in 1985) and Tanmay Agarwal (119 balls vs Arunachal Pradesh in 2024).
Shaw eventually returned unbeaten on 222 in just 156 balls, striking 29 fours and five sixes during his blazing inning. His efforts saw Maharashtra impose a mammoth 464-run target, following which their bowlers folded the Chandigarh chase for 319.

While Shaw's efforts was commendable, he was not considered for Player of the Match, which was instead presented to Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.
However, Gaikwad's act after being named Player of the Match won hearts as he decided to share the honour with Shaw.
